Shivapuri-Nagarkot is a well-known hiking route near Kathmandu Valley. The program gives you a unique opportunity to see the rural suburbia of the valley, that is unspoiled by modernization and has views of pristine nature. Protected as Shivapuri National Park, it lies between sub-tropical and temperate climate zones with diverse plant life. On a clear day you can have wonderful views of snow-capped peaks such as Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Range, Mt. Dorje-Lakpa, Mt. Gaurishankar and Mt. Sishapangma.
You start the trek from Budhanilkantha walking through forests along the bank of Bagmati River. Shivapuri is a place for photography, bird-watching, and nature-walk. You are advised to bring along your camera and binoculars. Some animals seen here are sloth bear, leopard, civet, marten, pangolin, wild boar, and porcupine. Upon reaching Shivapuri Hill, the highest point at 2,729 meters in this trail, you will begin the forest trek to Nagarkot. In the spring, these hills smell of rhododendron as the flowers bloom in all their glory, attracting birds and colourful insects.
If you choose to go on an extended trek, you will visit Chisapani – a few hours’ trek from the capital. You will stay a night at Chisapani, enjoy a pleasant morning and trek back to Nagarkot. Arriving at Nagarkot, you will relax in a pre-booked hotel of our choice and enjoy a spectacular sunrise view from the hill station. On your way back you can hike to Changu Narayan, Dhulikhel or Namobuddha if you wish to extend your trip for one night more.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
After you arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, we will welcome you at the airport and transfer to hotel. You can spend the evening around Thamel or just sit enjoying a drink.
Day 02: Trek from Kathmandu to Shivapuri
After breakfast, we will drive to Budhanilkantha at the foot of Shivapuri, around 15 kilometers from Kathmandu. From there we will begin the trek along River Bagmati, walking towards its source. Upon reaching the top of Shivapuri Hill, you can have fantastic views of the mountains in the north. Stay in a tent overnight.
Day 03: Trek from Shivapuri to Sundarijal
Today you will wake up early, have breakfast and continue the trek. The trek is an easy one today with very little variations of surface. The trail passes through dense forests and rhododendron bushes. Periodically, you will have good views of the surrounding valleys. Stay overnight in a tent.
Day 04: Hike from Sundarijal to Chisapani
The hike up from Sundarijal to Chisapani takes about six hours. The trail passes through Shivapuri National Park and the first village you will come across is Mulkharka with Tamang habitants. The way heads down the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisapani (2,300m). Stay overnight at a lodge in Chisapani.
Day 05: Trek from Chisapani to Nagarkot
Today we continue our hiking. We start from Chauki Bhanjyang in the lap of nature watching dense forest, birds and landscape we continue the pleasant trails leading towards Nagarkot (2175m). Overnight at a hotel or lodge in Nagarkot.
Day 06: Trek from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan and back to Kathmandu
After watching sunrise on mountain ranges, we hike from Nagarkot down to Changu Narayan, which takes approximately three and half hours. From there we drive for about an hour to Kathmandu and stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 07: Departure Transfer
A few hours ahead of the scheduled time, we will take you to Kathmandu International Airport for your scheduled flight.
